Helping Families Grow in Faith—Together

Looking for a way to grow in your faith with your children? Our Family Catechesis program is here to support you in your most important role—passing on the faith at home.

Family Catechesis

Why Family Catechesis?

Because faith begins at home. When parents grow in their own understanding of the faith, they naturally pass it on—through conversations, daily life, and love. We are here to walk with you.

What Curriculum Do We Use?

We use A Family of Faith from Sophia Institute.

  • Designed to bring parents and children closer to Christ
  • Easy-to-follow guides and activities
  • Flexible enough to fit your family’s schedule
  • Builds a strong foundation in Catholic teaching, prayer, and the Sacraments

Typical Family Catechesis Monthly Schedule

 First Sunday of the Month:

Small Group Instruction

Second Sunday of the Month:

Home Instruction

Third Sunday of the Month:

Full Family Catechesis

Fourth Sunday of the Month:

Home Instruction

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at dre@carloacutisprep.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We get it—family life is full, and your calendar probably already feels packed. That’s why our program meets just twice a month and uses a flexible curriculum you can work through at home on your own schedule.

When we make space for God, He blesses that time. Prioritizing faith as a family sends a powerful message:

“This matters to us. Our faith is important.”

You won’t be doing it alone—we’re here to support you every step of the way.

You don’t have to be a theologian—just a willing parent. Your children don’t need perfection; they need your presence, your love, and your example.

Share your faith through real conversations, personal stories, and a listening heart. That’s evangelization. And you won’t be doing it alone—we’ll provide clear guidance, simple resources, and ongoing support to help you along the way.

You’ll be learning and growing in faith right alongside your child—and that’s a beautiful witness.

You won’t. Family Catechesis isn’t about doing everything perfectly—it’s about showing up, being present, and growing together in faith.

Every family is different, and that’s a gift! This journey will look a little different in every home because each family has its own rhythm, personality, and story. Don’t worry about doing it like anyone else. Build your own traditions. Make it your own.

There’s no such thing as failure when you're walking with your family toward Christ.

Church Documents in Support of Family Catechesis

Catechism of the Catholic Church:

CCC 2223:
“Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children in the faith, prayer, and all the virtues.”

CCC 1653:
“Parents should initiate their children at an early age into the mysteries of the faith of which they are the ‘first heralds.’” Parents are the principal and first educators of their children...

Lumen Gentium: Dogmatic Constitution on the Church:

The family is, so to speak, the domestic church. In it parents should, by their word and example, be the first preachers of the faith of their children.

General Directory for Catechesis (1997):

 GDC 255:
“Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches all other forms of catechesis.”

GDC 226:
“The family is… the primary agent of evangelization and catechesis.”

Directory for Catechesis (2020):

 #124:
“The family is called to be a place where the faith is born and where it grows.”

#227:
“Catechesis in the family has a special character: it is informal, permanent, and carried out by example and word.”

Familiaris Consortio (1981) – St. John Paul II:

#39:
“The right and duty of parents to give education is essential... original and primary… it is irreplaceable and inalienable.”
